The Datomaster is a watch entrenched in some solid 60’s fashion. Its stripped down dial bears “only” the essentials for a Chronograph. Featuring applied batons as hour markers & a chapter ring pushed at the very edge of the dial, there is plenty of space for the contrasting sub-dials to express themselves. With its bright splashes of color on the second hand & sub-dial, the Datomaster projects the kind of futur optimism that had gripped the 1960’s.
The Datomaster Mecaquartz was our attempt at getting a size-accurate re-edition of the original thing. Back when movements were smaller, the 36mm Datomaster had no problem fitting a manual wind chronograph. Today, that’s a bit of a different story and to get a 36mm datomaster we went with the very reliable Seiko VK64 mecaquartz chronograph.
